Our Mission:

By August of 2027 we will achieve total financial freedom via savings and responsible investments. We will accomplish this while living in an ecologically sound and socially conscious manner. We will have bought land, built a home, and have children. If we ever own a vehicle, it will be the most environmentally friendly model available on the market. Most importantly, we will NEVER employ the credit industry to accomplish our goals.

Moving By Bus

Our new home is only about a twenty minute walk from the old one. Our landlord help us move the furniture, including the bed, so that's where we've been sleeping. But clothing, food, pots and pans, and even the computer are still here at the old place. We have until the 22nd of January to get it all over, and at this rate we'll need every day of it.

In the meantime, I have become the poster child of car-free living. People see a woman walking down the street in broad daylight with a backpack and dragging along a huge, heavy brown suitcase? They stop and ask if they can help. Then I have to convince them I"m not a victim of abuse or joining the Austin homeless population, just moving a half mile.

It's not easy, but everyone should try it. Maybe "Buy Nothing Day" should be changed to "Move everything you own one block without the use of a motor vehicle, and then see if you really need any more so-called 'bargains'" day.

I love your attitude!!!!

Perhaps you could borrow a baby stroller from someone. That's what I use to walk our groceries and library books home.

Hehe, I love your last line. (And I've done the move-by-dragging-things-down-the-street thing too. Pile things on a chair or skateboard if you can. Rollers help.)

I'm with Meredith. Good attitude.
If you don't love/need it- don't move it.

Good luck!

We've used our kids' wagon for this kind of thing, but I don't suppose you own one of those. ;) Good luck!

Hi, I'm delurking to comment on this one. Good luck on the move. I've been there, done that and know how hard it can be (even with a minimum of stuff), so I totally sympathize!

I've done the kid's wagon thing (very helpful when hauling books!), as Tenille mentioned. I wish bike trailers were as easy to rent as autos, as that'd be a helpful one as well.

Or, if I wasn't all the way up in Michigan, I'd send my Husky-mix over with his much adored harness and flatbed trailer (it's a mechanic's dolley converted to a flatbed dog cart. GREAT for moving bulky/awkward items--you just bungee and/or tie them down).

Good luck again on the move. It sounds like it will definitely be worth it!

You titled you piece, " Moving by Bus" Does that mean that there is a bus you could actually take to do the move? If so, does your transit service offer a day pass? Some do this to cater to tourists. It gives you unlimited bus service for a day. Perhaps this could save you some of the dragging and walking.
